What is the Historic Murray Canal District?
The Canal District is the intersection of three municipalities and three bodies of water. A bit ‘the County’, Quinte West, and Brighton, but in many ways not a part of any of these. We live in the far corners of three different municipalities but we share a common experience that is defined by the uniqueness of this place and the waters that surround it, the Bay of Quinte, Presqu’isle Bay, and the Murray Canal.
Our name emphasizes the historic significance of the Canal District. We see the rich and largely unrecognized heritage as a central theme in our quest to improve quality of life in the area.
Together, we can
Preserve our way of life. Improve our roads and services. Create jobs, new recreational facilities and development opportunities.

Our goal is to establish a ‘critical mass’ of cultural, political and financial influence in one non-governmental organization to foster our quality of life, environmental, and economic interests.
